I Just bought snakewood. (finally, i found some not too expensive!)

Anyone of you ever worked with massive snakewood?

it's so expensive and rare, i'm afraid to scrap it eek !

And it's so beautiful!!!

You know, in french, we call it "Bois d'Amourette".. And "amourette" means "flirt" or, "short time" love.. you know what I mean!

In France we just say "amourette". It is funny in French we call it amourette and in English snakewood
Be carefull when working it, it is very hard but sometimes little brittle.
Were did you buy it ? Gilmerwood ?

I bought a log on ebay a while back cheap. Far as I've got is to bandsaw it in quarters and saw off a few small strips to test bending. Saws nicely, but watch splinters!

How long is it? You should quarter saw it. I got this board from Gilmore and re sawed it in half. It was a off quarter but I believe just fine for Fret boards and bridges.

Beautiful piece is it!!!

For my part, I don't bought entire log, the picture was just to show what is Amourette. I Bought 4 little lumbers (knife scale). By the picture, they seem enough quartsawn... But i guess it's difficult to get big lumber perfectly quartersawn from so little trees..? Anyway... i'll probably keep 2 blanks for a knife or some tool handle... and keep the rest for incrustations and little decorative laminations... maybe a bridge, who know, but what using on fingerboard, and on the rest of the guitar!, to match with a snakewood bridge? (exept snakewood...)

The piece you receive was Cyanoacrilate sealed?

No, the ends looked like paraffin and maybe some shellac or some sort of oil finish on the flats.

There was a guy on ebay selling it cheap. I bought a 54"x 4" log for under a hundred bucks.

Is he still selling it? You should be able to get alot of binding and bridge plates from that . I guess since it's quartered already that you weren't able to get any fret boards from it then?

After looking at the close up pictures I can see that it would be very hard to get any boards from them.

My log was really straight...I can get a lot of binding out of it. Probably why it was $100. Keep watching...
