On my first Mandolin Build I used straight cross bracing on the back , scalloped at each end ( 3 ) pcs . I have been toying with idea of X bracing the back of my second build
and scalloping it in several places to "lighten" the mando some.

Does the Back Bracing attribute much / any to the tonal Quality ? Has this been done before? Am I making a Mistake by thinking in that direction? idunno

Hi James,

I really don't have an answer for you as I have only built one mandolin before and it was a cheap flattop I finished in 3 days haha and it shows. you could try asking over in the forums at mandolin cafe, seems like they would likely have quite a few opinions on this kind of stuff,

good luck with your build!

Matt
