This is a seven string "classical" I built for a a guy who plays Brazilian choro music.
The top is European Spruce and the back & sides are Black Acacia. The scale is 650mm, French Polish finish and the binding and details are Black Ebony and Macassar Ebony.

Thanks for having a look at it. Here's sound clip from You Tube, my friend Jason McGuire is playing the guitar. If it's not cool to post from You Tube I can have him send me a sound clip. I'm curious about what other builders think.

Absolutely beautiful work! I love it! I visited with Luizinho 7 cordas and Euclides Marques recently in Brazil and did a bunch of filming for a future video on the topic of the Brazilian 7 string guitar. Did you know that most chorões actually use a mixture of steel strings and nylon strings on those 7 string guitars?
What did you tune the 7th string to?

Congrats, Stephen. Your guitar is a knock-out - both looks and sound! The Solea' Jason played made the hair on the back of my neck rise up. Truly a dream sound!

Strangely enough, I am building a flamenca with Tazzie Blackwood right now. And if it has anything like the sound you've achieved with yours I will be in luthier heaven. Do you use a particular historic plantilla? Also, can you give an idea of your bracing scheme?

Best wishes,

I betcha that it would sound even better with strings on it. ;)

But you already know that I really like your work!

Wow! What a beautifully-executed guitar.

Wow, beautiful guitar, I really like the contrast in the rosette, it's bold. Great sound too.

I'm especially fond of the cup holder in the side. But, how you keep an extra hot latte from blushing the finish?

Beautiful looking and sounding instrument !! [:Y:] Excellent design elements and contrasts. The rosette is really a knockout and the detail of the back and heel-cap are real eye-catchers. The colors and grain on the headstock plate are really nice. Keep up the good work!

Hi, must have been fun to be in Brazil. The low string is tuned to "b", The guy I made it for has a few other choro seven strings and one of them does have the combination of nylon strings with cello strings. The low E and B are cello strings.

The player wanted this guitar to play choro and jazz, he also dabbles a bit in flamenco, so he watend it set up like a classical guitar.

I usually include cup holders in the sides of my guitars and when they ask how I know how big to make the soundport, I ask them "You like large, medium or small coffee cups? "
