Tried somthing new last night that seemed to work fairly well. I needed to cut the slots for fretting in a new fingerboard for a rework and dont have a circular saw to do it. I do however have a scroll saw . I put a new blade in and did some basic squaring set up ( alot more thought is needed for set up) and used my scroll saw to cut the slots , it worked quite well actually . I would say probably 95% of what you would get from frett circular saw.

Im sure this has been tried before , however i wanted to share what this "newbie" discovered .

Have great day everyone

How did you do this exactly ? Do you have a picture ? My scroll does not have any mitre slots - does yours ? How did you keep the fret board squared to the flexible blade ?

A hand fretsaw would be better then a scroll saw. You could get 100% accurate cut with that compared to the 95%. It totally not the saw to use for fretting. A scroll saw cuts in and orbital motion and not straight up and down.

as i said in the comments , alot more thought is needed for set up , all i did was mark a line across my table at 90 degrees from blade , at approx the thickness of my blank and marked the cut spots on the edge of the finger board. i kept the blank parallel with my mark as i moved it inward. "steady hand and good lighting " . Obviously its not the best possible approach , however it did work . as for "orbital motion" the scroll saw i have doesnt seem to have any , if it does it isnt much. Also , my blank is rectangular , cut to proper angles after slotting. would i do this on a "build" no . as i have said it was a rework , i am picking up here and there to get experience under my belt.
