Howdy, Gang.
I have a 12 string on the bench going through a neck reset.
Suzuki F-180, Nagoya Model
BTW
Shane, you might want to take a look at this thread.
I`ve been taking detailed though crappy photos throughout the process. I haven`t figured out how to get the pics up on the forum yet, but will be showing as soon as I can get my expectant daughter to sit down at the desk and show me how to resize images with the hardware I have (that is, if a new grandson doesn`t take priority). [:Y:]
The guitar showed up out of the blue and the owner said it had a problem with the neck. I said what the heck, I`ll look at it and see if it`s worth the trouble.
My prognosis- belly at the bridge (bolt down and still lifting at the rear), broken truss rod, too much forward bow in the neck (action much too high to be brought back without resetting the neck). I think that it may have been left in too warm a climate for awhile. Other than that, nice tight instrument.
This is my first real repair for someone other than family and friends, and a gentleman`s contract. I stand to make out on the deal, and if it doesn`t work out it`ll cost me 100 bucks US. Such is the cost for this opportunity.
I`ve managed to get everything apart without destroying the whole shooting match. bliss
Y`all look forward to questions regarding the difference between 6 and 12-string guitars. Strength will be the issue, I presume, as well as the theory of thickness below the head of the truss rod (I really think that the single rod may have aided in the neck bowing forward, and have already routed it out for a double.) Is .220" enough, or shall I find an alternative plan of approach?
I`ve never handled, much less played a 12-string, so I want to do it right.
Any advice and links are very welcome.

Coe Franklin

Hey Coe,

Your heading "12 string Suzuki" did indeed catch my attention. But I think mine and the one on your bench are quite different, although likely similar in age. Mine is a Nagoya AD412S bought new in about 1982 or so. It is a slot head 12 string, cedar top and mahogany back and sides. The bridge is not adjustable and did pop off but I have glued it back on. I LOVE the neck on this guitar, it is a super easy player. I use it quite a bit for playing fiddle tunes with my son when he plays violin (he is only 9).

Looking forward to the picks!

Shane
