I noticed these 3M micro abrasives for sharpening while browsing through the Lee Valley catalog:
http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=33004&cat=1,43072

I was just wondering if anyone has used it, and whether it offer advantages over the use of regular sandpaper.

thanks, Christian

Those 3m abrasives last much longer and are Mylar backed and are PSA sticky... so they don't soak up water and come apart and they stick without using glue or spray adhesives...

You can successfully use paper backed sandpaper... I have done it.

It tends not stick to the plate -- it lumps up in front of the edge dubbing it...
It tends to shed grit because the water ruins the adhesives and backer....
They tend to shift around if you don't glue them down....

but... you can use it.

I like the 3m stuff much better...

Thanks

John
