Jim Krenov passed last night at 7:00 p.m.
I know he has been mentioned here from time to time and I know a lot of the folks here have been influenced in some way by him. There are a few CR grads here as well. He was 89.
I know I will miss him.

Fortunately he was one of the few who was acknowledged for his work and contributions to woodworking while he was still with us. His sense of line and immaculate execution of task can certainly be seen in the work of many workers (and even the work of a few guitarsmakers!)

He, like Sam Maloof and George Nakashima before him, while gone, will not soon be forgot! Link you were lucky to have been able to get know him! Others, like myself, have to settle for his written word which does remain with us.

Shane

Sad news, indeed. He was quite an inspiration.

I studied with Jim for two years in the early 80's. I have been building furniture and guitars for over 30 years and everything I know about woodworking that is worth knowing I learned from him. He was always so generous with his time and knowledge, not to mention wood and tools, I will always be in his debt. It is a sad day for everyone who knew him, and I think tonight especially about his wife, Britta, who did so much to support him when he was building furniture in his basement with little notice.

Peace, Paul

Certainly a great loss of a magnificent woodworking icon. I just got an email from FWW a while ago with the news. He will be missed in life but his legacy will live indefinitely.
