Okay, well, please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong area. I'm a total throwback to an earlier time. Years ago, I heard my Grandmother talk about Black Diamond strings and Gibson Mona-Steel strings.
I've tried the modern Black Diamond strings and well, to be nice, they don't seem to be as good as the one real set I got when I was about 15 years old.
So, I've stuck with a combination of stainless steel and nickel silver on my instruments. Tried the D'Aquisto T.R. sets, but I've had issues with them being completely dead right out of the package. Found the GHS white bronze which seems to be the best nickel sets I've found so far.
All that said, I had a hankering to look for the old Monel guitar strings. Does anyone even make these anymore? All I can find are mandolin and bass guitar sets. I'm guessing tonally they'd be somewhere in between stainless steel and nickel-silver.
Any ideas?
Now all I need to do is find out if Gibson still makes the "sonomatic" set that came on my Uncle's Les Paul when I first got it. Doubtful, but I'm hopeful.
Thanks in advance!!!!
John
