I have been in contact with a local man who has a passion to play guitar but he has a challenge with his left hand. About one centimeter of his middle finger was cut off in an accident and left him with a shorter, but slightly wider tip than the rest of his fingers. He has tried many types of guitars including classical but his middle finger dampens the adjacent strings. He does not feel that trying to learn to play left-handed will be successful.

He has asked if I can craft a wider neck with greater string spacing. Does anyone have experience with extra-wide necks? What are the implications of having the same string spread at the nut and at the saddle? Is there a recommended way to test string spacing options with a special jig?
