OK...Guitar looks pretty good...even though I am starting to pick apart my craftmanship the more I look at it and examine everything. I hate that when I do that!
I have used (stayed within all the limits) all the suggested criteria for string height at 1st and 12th fret and during the filing process I found my first string developed a strange sound. It is not touching any fret during a open pluck, but has a mysterious tinny deadning of the tone...not really a buzz. I can't tell if its the nut slot or the bridge that is causing the problem. Anyone have test method for fishing out the culprit with an issue like this.
I also have a 4th. string minor buzzing at the 4th. and 5th. fret. I'll work at leveling out the fret imbalance at the 5th and 6th fret to MAYBE correct this.
Thanks Steve for the instructions on downloading the photos to the forum. I'll try posting pictures again tonight after my computer wife gets home.
Except for the minor string issues, the guitar plays quite well. I assume it will open up a bit as the finish and guitar settles in to it's new life position.

If you fret any note on the string with the problem and the deadness goes away, it may be that your nut slot is binding. If it sounds the same open or fretted, it's likely not that. It's important that the last point of contact in the nut slot is right where the FB begins. Hope that makes sense...

As above but also can be the open string is vibrating on the 1st fret if the string slot is cut too deep.

most buzzes at the nut (assuming its not hitting the first fret) usually indicate that the slot has a flare in it, towards the first fret .. think the end of a a trumpet .. as the string vibrates, it hits the side of the flare and creates the buzz ....
