Hi Folks,

Hoping a few of you might be able to help me out on this one. A good friend of mine flys out from Australia USA bound tomorrow morning. He lands in LA, spends around 6 weeks sight seeing and then heads back to LA before flying out.

He has always wanted a PRS and with prices being what they are here in AU, this trip presents him with a once in a life time opportunity to get his hands on a decent guitar at a reasonable price. However his budget will still only allow him to consider a 2nd hand instrument. He plays quite well but does not know a great deal about what to look for, and more importantly, what he should steer clear of when examining a use axe.

So what he really needs to assist him is the names and addresses of a few 'reputable' 2nd hand instrument dealerships in LA that can be trusted to do the right thing by him and not sell him a stripped out lemon. With his limited time frame this will hopefully give him some choice and direction instead of him going in completely blind.

TIA for your help.

Cheers

Kim

The Guitar Center in Hollywood used to have a decent selection of second hand instruments they took in trade. I've bought several used guitars and amps from them but it's been over 15 years so things may have changed.

I would have to second that about Guitar Center. They are celebrating their 45th anniversary right now if I remember correctly so your friend may be able to get an even better deal at this time. :)

If your friend does try Guitar Center for a PRS, tell him to bargain, bargain, bargain. They will almost always sell an item for well below their list price (not MSRP) and their sales staff works on commission. They all want to move products out the door.

Thanks for that guys I found their store address on the net. Anyone with any other suggestions for the LA area?

West LA Music

Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana or "The Valley"

McCabes Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, more for acoustics but they also carry electric's.

The Amp Shop in Sherman Oaks is a cool store as well.

But if he really wants a deal try craigslist.org, thats where I get most of my gear these days. Or I guess he could go to guitar center.

Good Luck, Morgan

All worth a call. These are small shops that might only have one or two guitars.

California Vintage Guitar
Primitive Sound - Burbank
Future Music - Highland Park
Gerard's Guitars - Van Nuys
Westwood Music - Go See Fred Welecki !

Mesa Boogie Hollywood - Sometimes high-end used stuff - but do the whole block - this in on Sunset Blvd. across from the main GC, Manny's is there - and Sam Ash Down the street a few blocks, etc...

Buffalo Brothers !! - PRS Dealer and used/vintage - If he can make the drive south to Carlsbad - well worth the drive !

Thanks everyone [:Y:]

Great heads up about the Amigo guitar show in Santa Monica thanks Tom that should be a great opportunity for him. Now I am 'really' jealous.
