Hello All,
I was lucky enough to see and hear a brand spanking new Robert Ruck 2009 Flamenco blanca. The most interesting thing I noticed was instead of a straight backstrip, it had a thin wedge shaped backstrip, widest at he endblock. Cocobolo bridge and cocobolo headplate, spruce top, cypress back & sides. The owner has had it for only 3 days. It needs to get played to open up soundwise but I expect it will be a great guitar. One of the cleanest builds I have ever seen. I will get a picture of it soon I hope and will post same.

Mr. Ruck is truly a master !
He makes fantastic instruments.
I wish he would write a book on guitarmaking.

Mike

I could not agree more. I even got to play an experimental upside-down Ruck; upper bout bider than lower bout with soundports; that he gave a friend of mine. It is amazing. What I would give to get on his list, which has been closed for some time.

Hi John,

I hope you post a picture of the Ruck guitar you described. I've seen a number of his guitars and never one with the "wedge" piece in the back. I have a Ruck flamenca blanca he made in 1993. It is a great instrument and Robert is a master luthier. I am fortunate to have become friends with him since I bought the guitar - we attend the same flamenco course in Spain each year. As a matter of fact I will be leaving for this year's course tomorrow.

I doubt he will be doing a book or video any time soon. He makes around 25 guitars per year usually doing 3 at a time. Consequently, he is extremely busy and primarily commited to building at this point in his career. However, he has said he would like to run a course like Jose Romanillos does/did once he retires from active building. There is an article in one of the Guild of American Luthiers (GAL) Red Books (no 4, I think), which is taken from a session he did at one of the GAL conventions that you may find interesting.

Regards,
Max

I will get a picture Tuesday if it is OK with the owner. I have never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ruck. Next time my friend with the upside down Ruck comes over, I will get a pic of that one too. Here is link to a pic of the upside down model. My friend Jim is quite a guitarist, best I have ever heard and I have heard many. Ruck gave him that guitar, can you believe it!
