Hi Lance and Tony!

I was happy to meet you both (as well as Brock!) this weekend. We didn't talk a lot 'cause I didn't want to hold you guys up (I was not a potential customer!) but it was nice to have a chance to thank you in person for making and maintaining the OLF for Lance and Brock and thanking Tony for the many times you helped me.

Hopefully I'll be exposing with you guys next year!

I have to agree, Montreal is an awesome city!

Back to the show...

What sort of traffic was coming through? numbers of people? potential buyers, tire kickers, craft admirers? Did any of the working musicians come through, or just the general public?

Was the guitar show easily accessible to the public?

What was the distribution of guitar types presented? what was catching people's attention?

Excellent question Howard, its also very hard to know. Maybe some of our OLF'ers will
chime in if they had any luck. My self I did not sell any thing, I did make a great connection
with a dealer in Nashville that will be selling my guitars. Im sure Paul Woolson had some good bites as well
as Brock and If I recall, Tony Karol sold a baritone?

More importantly, it was a great time, it was fun to spend time with friends and Montreal, man what a cool city!
I can not wait tell next year!

I was up in montreal for the weekend and got to spend a couple of hours at the show on Sunday. It was amazing seeing all of the builders and their guitars in one place. I got to see and chat with John Ostoff, Alan, and Yukon from these parts and was able to meet Lance, Brock, and Laurent for the first time. All of the work was inspiring, it was neat to see some of Matsuda's experimental work and to see things like a Somogyi up close. I had a chance to play a few really amazing guitars too, a Borges Dread, Alan Carruth's mahogany guitar in a nashville tuning, and a Sexauer pernambuco guitar (on Laurent's recommend, very worth it!). I got to play Laurent's guitar that is featured in the current thread also, it was really nice. It was a great time. Tony, I didn't get a chance to say hi to you, you were srrounded by people every time I went by, I figured that was a good thing!
Montreal was very cool too. I had a much easier time faking it with my halfway french than in France and my girlfriend and I had some great meals, (Raw beef with mustard foam was at the top of the list!!). The Jazz fest is really amazing, almost surreal in how peaceful it seemed in the middle of a city. It lets you see what can be possible.

The one thing I didn't like was that the sound booths were outside of the the exhibitor's hall. Out of sight, out of mind. Having the booths visually 10-20 ft away really worked well and many more people took them into the booths to try them the previous years.

Lance, here's one you missed this was right outside the main entrance at around 7:00 PM.

I sold two electrics and I know from Jacques-André that Mario Beauregard also sold two, Bruno Boutin sold a classical, Tony Karol sold his Baritone, Cloe Hahn sold two... I'm told that many more were sold... numbers will probably be known later when the luthiers comments sheets are compiled.

That was a real great show for sure.
I was really happy to meet some canadian and american makers I know the work for years.
And I was really happy to meet Brock and Lance.
I simply hope I can get better at english to be able to have a real conversation.

Just curious, what's the general policy on letting people play your instruments at a the show?

Do you ever have incidents where over-zealous strummers scratch the top or maybe bang the instrument around?

I suppose it comes with the territory but it would be a shame to lose a sale because of scratches in the finish...

If I have a guitar that is owned by a client ill let folks play it but I watch them closely, no belt buckles, etc, if its a show guitar, I say have at it. I can always buff it out after the show. If someone wants to buy it, they are welcome to buy it as is or let me take it home and freshen it up.
One thing that drives me nuts is seeing "Do not touch" on guitars at the shows. If ya dont want anyone to touch it, leave it at home! This is a candy store!
