I have some re-freting to do and I want to know if a bag of sand (instead of a bag of shot) will be dense enough to deaden the blow?

I have used a bag of sand before and it works OK, but not as good as shot.

Rod: A bag of sand that is sold in stores during the winter is all I have ever used with a small metal block in side the body for the extension.That was before switching to bolt on necks,now I use a wooden jig to hold the tenon when doing the fingerboard extension.Works ok for me. I'm sure the bag of shot would work better,but I've have not found the need.
