Here it is, patterned after an early L1 Gibson. Tenor size, carpathian spruce top, ebony mun b&s, african blackwood binding and saddle. Top and neck finished with Permalyn gunstock finish, back and sides french polished.











Has a nice mellow sound, now if these strings will stop stretching!

Wow, that's a stunning instrument Joe. How thin did you go on the ebony? Also, what kind of tuners did you use?

I know what you mean about the strings stretching. I always pull them up tight prior to winding, as in no slack and still get 4 or 5 rounds. I'm assuming those are Aquila"s?

Darrel, yes those are acquila strings, and that's a good tip on pulling out the slack before winding. I started with the same slack I use on guitars and wound up with so many windings I had to redo them and still have too many windings. Those are grover uke tuners from stew-mac, about $11, and I thinned the ebony to .065".

The strings are starting to settle down a bit and the sound seems to be opening up.

Wow, great uke Joe! Love the wood and appointments. I have a tenor on the bench now too. It will be a while before I finish. I also know about the strings stretching, I always pull tight, then start turning. These strings do stretch a lot! Have fun playing that little uke.
