Hi guys,

I was asked to do an "exact" reproduction of Rosebud for a dead tribute cover plate, as well as an original design involving a raven and shamrocks. Here are both. Rosie might have been pearl or possibly ivory in the original, this one is pearl.
I used to feel that doing reproduction stuff was not my speed, however with the dead inlays I realized that these are pretty historic inlays in luthiery, and may be the most well know inlays within the general population out there, as far as inlay art alone goes.

Basically these are a lot of fun, as well as honoring a part of music history.
If there are any questions go for it :)
The beak and talons of the raven are black oyster, and are much darker then black pearl. They light up at only the right angle, but it's a cool effect.
Thanks for looking, See you at ASIA,
Sincerely,
Craig L

Stunning work as always, Craig.

I love the raven, and want to buy Rosie a hamburger and fries (she's looking a bit thin.)

Thanks Dennis,
Funny thing the grateful dead.
I remember in high school doing one of those "get 13 albums for a penny" deals (yeah right) where they keep billing you afterward [headinwall]

I was into classic rock, and started picking out my albums. I saw the skeletons and thought "Hey then must be like progressive rock, like Rush, etc.." like all the groups I liked, Having never heard of them before.

I got one of the albums and played it. Boy what a surprise that was.. eek duh

I like them much more now at 40 then at 16..

Craig

Great work Craig. (as usual) That is giving me ideas.

I am with you re the greatful dead. I really like them now, didn't care that much for them earlier. David (the dawg) did a great album with Doc Watson. Doc and Dawg. good stuff.

I am running copies now, then starting on the back art. I want to send it out to you hopefully in under a month.

This one has been sitting long enough!
Thanks!

Kind of funny to me to hear people say they like the Dead now at 40, but not at 16. I was just the other way around. I LOVED the dead from high school all the way through college. My love affair began to fade after that. Now that I am 40, the Dead are like comfort food. I love a good meatloaf now and again, but I'm way more excited by what some top chef is putting out.

Still, I will always have a warm spot for Gerry and the gang. I'm glad that 15 years after his death, the have "not fade away."

I have been to about 100 Dead shows and seen approx 50.... IMO the parking lot was just as much fun as the show sometimes - wow - some wild adventures..... and a good way to waste my early 20's.... those wild and free hippy girls.... ahhhh to be young again!
I enjoyed the Grateful Dead's music especially pre-75 and thier bluegrass country influenced particularily.... but I was never as fanatical as so many people that listened to them.... some would listen to nothing else - some would only listen to live taped shows... and had hundreds of them! I could never restrict my musical listening habits to one band... thats for sure...
Anyway alot of good people I met along the way.... RIP Jerry..
Cheers
Charlie

That was pretty much exactly the same introduction I had to the Dead too, except I was about 12, and got tapes (Columbia House, I think?). By the time I was 16, I was way into them, (along with the other things that go along with them pizza )

Great inlays, as always.
