I am in the need for a dust collecting system, most of my tools work well with a shop vac, but my new ( used) drum sander requires two 4" pipes for collection, so it need not be too large , but it does need to be adequate . Jody

I just picked up a V-3000 from onieda. They have a "recession buster" package and it's quite a good deal.

The system FAR FAR exceeds what I was used to with my old bag grizzly system. This unit SUCKS!

If you can swing it, go big. Take a look at a Clear-Vue Cyclone (they're one of our sponsers). If you get a dust collector big enough for the sander, it will be able to handle all your other tools. I lucked out and got a cyclone dust collector off a CraigsList ad.

what are the cfm requirements you are wanting to meet? how much do you want to spend? i whole heatedly recommend grizzly. i have a 2HP cyclone that is great. the canister collectors look pretty sweet as well. as an added incentive they have free shipping right now! ooooh... free shipping... that gives me an idea... hehe

i have no idea of the "requirements" all I know is it is a dual drum sander, the previous owner added a second dust port just behind the second roller, they are both 4". i am nervous about grizzly, i bought some cam clamps from them ,they turned out to be CLO's ( yes clamp like objects) from a company whose owner supposedly makes guitars ? well i just dont know ! Jody

The dual drum grizzly's are not the best units for dust collection. Mike Doolin has a article on his site about making them better that way. You'll want 900 actual cfm or so at the machine.

ok, well just like everything else in this world there is a wide array of dust collection possibilities. theres everything from a small shop vac to huge multi horse power 3 phase units. you obviously need something in between. how wide is the drum sander? how much money you are willing to spend is going to dictate a lot. theres always used. have you looked at the grizzly dust collectors? there are for sure some things i would most likely never buy from grizzly, but ive got four or five grand in grizzly machines in my shop and i love them. do you have the capability to run 220v? theres a ton out there, you just need to narrow it down a bit more.

fillipo is right. you made not need to spend big bucks on this. i do, however, think that the unit dennis recommended would be a pretty good one to own. something ive noticed is that the greater capacity of the dust collection unit does more than just clear dust from the drum. it also acts to cool the drum and wood. thats a good thing.

what I have is a kusters woodworking 22" dual drum sander, I found a handbook ( which mentioned the machines suitability for instrument makers use)online,before I bought, but am unable to find the link again. they started in 1945, in 1995 they had operations in five countries in europe as well as south america and the U.S.( remarkably however no operations in CHINA!). my machine is at least ten years old,. it has two dust ports. one (it appears ) added by a previous owner, i have a 16"32, which is o.k for plates , as long as they are perfectly flat ! any cupping is an issue. as long as I can keep working , I will probably keep it for braces and bindings. thanks Jody
