Ok, you guys convinced me that this is the brand to go with but there are many options or models to choose from. I am assuming that I want the 3/16" orbit versus the 3/8" orbit. I will be using this for both dry and wet sanding so I'm not sure if vacuum would be a good thing. I'd like to have vacuum for dry sanding but will that be a bad thing when I wet things down? Also 5" or 6", all of my current sanders and discs are 5" and I am inclined to stay with that.

Mine is 5" diameter, 3/16 orbit, non-vacuum with both PSA and hook and loop wheels that I change out as needed. If all your other sanders are 5", stay with it. No use having to order another size of sandpaper disks.

How about a down draft table in lieu of the vacuum port on the Dynabrade? You have all that "room" across the canyon in Cool so what's another couple of square feet of space eaten up?

John, You could always go with the vac hookup and just not use the vac whan you use wet discs. The 3/16 is the most versatile of the ones I have. Are you getting the "Spirit" series? They are light as a feather!

Yes Joe I am considering the spirit series.
Well I guess I need to just break out the old debit card and make sure there is something in there and just make an order.

With the vacuum model you will enjoy improved performance. There is less build up of waste between the abrasive and the wood, which means less loading of the paper. This is especially important when sanding finishes. The paper doesn't get those little gumballs stuck all over it as much. The vacuum also creates airflow so you get a cooling effect; again less loading, especially on finish sanding.
The non-vac models can be retrofitted with the vac shroud and pad, but it's cheaper to get it as a vac unit from the factory.
For wet-sanding get paper without holes.
I use the vac setup and a downdraft table- I don't need to wear a mask when I sand...

You might check with Sacramento Machinery. They're down off Northgate Blvd in Sacramento. Can't think of anyone else large enough to have them near here.

There is also the 3/32" orbit model, described as "for ultra-fine sanding". I have one of these in the Supreme version and it works just fine for all purposes. The 3/32" orbit is also used by Festool and Porter-Cable on their 5" sanders. I buy my Dynabrade supplies from phillytools.com. I consider the extra weight of the Supreme series a plus, not a minus.
