With regards to SPAM.

It appears to be getting worse by the day, So I have asked our developers to do everything they can to help stop it.
Today they installed a new version of captcha for better protection from SPAM and also they will be installing a security question for new registers.
Also all new email addresses and IP addresses will be compared against a "blackhole" list during registration.

The final piece, all new accounts will have to be activated by me. Giving me the ability to NOT activate a SPAM account and there by blocking SPAM from being posted.

The down side to this is that new members may have to wait to be activated, and the registration process might take a minute longer as the software does the blackhole check.

Hope everyone understands.

Lance

Howdy Lance,

Makes perfect since to me. I assume the last account of spam was the three posts I saw yesterday I think it was that
had a bunch of nonsensical jibberish in them?

Perfect Lance. Although it will take alot more work on your part I think we all appreciate you helping to keep this forum a spam free environment.

I hate spam and advertisement where it forces itself on you. Heck, even the television has stupid spam crap. Ad's and stuff floating around at the bottom of the screen when you're trying to watch your favorite show.

I HATE IT!

I really don't need anger management classes....lol

Lance, just wanted to add my appreciation too. I'm right there with Chuck's sentiments.

Lance,

it sucks that you're having to waste time on this. Eben is doing it for us at the Luthier Community, and having to waste his valuable time too. It does appear that the simpler CAPTCHA graphics have been cracked (automated programs can get through without a human) by some sophisticated SPAMmers. And that sucks, because the more difficult to read CAPTCHA is a lot harder for prospective forum members to read. Face it, there are a lot of 50+ year old luthiers, and jumping through hoops and straining your eyes to read those graphics is probably making a few luthiers just give up before ever completing a registration.

I am doing some things in the Luthier Community software to help with these anti-SPAM issues, and since we use the same forum software, you are welcome to have your developers contact me and I'll help them if I can. I offer my help not only because I'm also an OLF member, but because I want to keep an open door between the forums.

Dennis
