If I shellac my top before binding to help keep the wood from tearing from binding tape, will I be able to scrape/sand it off so it won't interfere with any staining I might do? (I 'm doing a cherry red sunburst) Thanks, John

Hi John,
Think through the steps. The top, sides and back are smooth and ready for cutting the channels. Wash the top with shellac to stiffen the spruce. Cut the channels. Install the bindings. Level the bindings (scraping and sanding). Fine sanding all over, ready for filling and finish.

You will be cutting through the shellac probably twice.

Thanks David,I thought so but didn't know for sure how far it would penetrate. Have had problems with such things before on other stuff. Glue sploches mostly.
