I was wondering if anyone out there has used Wenge for binding?

The reason I ask is that every piece I've ever seen has a drastic color difference between the flat and quarter grain (the flat grain appears lighter), and I was wondering if it looks weird when you round over the binding?

I don't think the color discrepancy would be that evident in such a small piece as binding. I'd be way more worried about bending them, actually. Wenge is very prone to cracking and I imagine a small piece like binding would be a nightmare.

I do have some pieces that I've cut to binding sized, but I doubt I'll ever try to use them.

I've used wenge for binding. The color difference in the grain didn't sow up much after epoxy filling. The bending was easy on a fox style bender, but the pores are rather large for such small pieces of wood. Some wenge is better than other wenge. If you use rift sawn stock and have quartersawn corners on the radiused edge then the look is more uniform. I like that it doesn't bleed as much as rosewood, but it can be splintery.

I used some rift sawn wenge for my bindings it bent ok, and the colour difference is very subtle under a finish
