Hi All:
In checking the archives I found one series of posts regarding moisture meter recommendations. The posted question was about meters for thicker wood. My question is for the tops, sides, backs and burl I buy. The ebay price range is $10 up to over $600 so that is not really useful information. Any recommendations for a good meter? Thanks.

Hi George. I use the Mini Ligno E by Lignomat. I have been using it for a couple of years now and it seems to work fine, although I don't have anything to compare it to, just many of hours of research on the internet. It's range is from 6 to 36% and has pin ends. Price was around $105.

Not to hijack too much but is a moisture meter really necessary for luthiery? I mean, other than the neck, heel and end block we're dealing with some really thin stuff that has got to reach equilibrium pretty quickly. It seems like so long as you do a decent job of controlling shop humidity and wait a few months before using any new wood you wouldn't really need one.

I do control RH and temp in my wood storage area and am pretty sure that after a few months the thin stuff is stable or acclimated. Since I have only been building guitars for four or five years and budgets are tight my stockpile is not large. Sometimes I am not able to wait months or years and a few times wood I thought was dry was not really there yet. The low cost approach is to bother my luthier friends in town but I try to keep that to a minimum so I do not wear out my welcome. Thanks.
