So if you've been looking for one of these, I don't know what the deal is but Woodcraft is selling the patternmaker's vise for $74.99. I think they also have free shipping right now if this item qualifies.

midwayusa.com had these on closeout for 42.99 earlier this year, but now they're 82.99 and discontinued. idunno A bit rough and clunky, but a great vise.

Todays economy is probably driving some of the low prices.
