As I posted in another thread, I'm just now re-discovering the joys of random orbit sanding with my new Dynabrade, and for the first time on guitar work. I'm just curious what tasks you use your ROS for? Any recommendations on pad types, papers (I know this is already covered in Todd's thread), etc?

Where the heck to start! I guess would say my biggest use of my RO is flat sanding tasks like final in the white sand out with 220p I like Norton gold. I also use my RO to leveling out orange peel and there I use 400p from I get from Grizzly. For final finish polishing I have often used micromesh discs with adapted plate with closed cell foam 1/2" thick for back up padding. I don't like using the typical standard back up pad provided with most electric ROs for polishing finishes because it does not conform to the dome as well therefore can flatten the dome. But these days I have gone back to hand polish sanding with 800-1500 for the most part.

I also use my pneumatic RO for neck carving a lot

I use mine for buffing out the finish since I don't have a real buffer.
