It's been a while since I've posted a finished instrument, so I thought I show this. I just got strings on it the other day and it's sounding really good.

The Bridge is an Elliot/Doolin style.

The Bracing pattern is a X-fan style from Jeff Elliot. It has a flying X with fans running underneath the X. I've done a couple of these now and really like them.

Back and sides: Malaysian Blackwood.

Top: Carpathian Spruce.

Rosette: Spalted Maple, This is acrylicized wood from Larry Davis, he has it in all sorts of cool colors and species, this one is natural.

Binding and back of head stock inlay: Amazon Rosewood.

Fingerboardand bridge: Macasser Ebony

Very interesting bracing. Is there a concept or theory behind the flying X that you can articulate?

Very nice! Makes me think i haven't yet pared my braces down far enough - very sleek.

What makes it a "Flying" X? Is it because you didn't cap the X? *Grin* Seriously, i'm not sure what the term "flying" implies. Wide angle?

Hesh, i'm going to guess that since spalted wood can be punky, they impregnate it with acrylics to harden it?

I to love the back of the peghead! Nice job inlaying the veneer and purfling. I am guessing you created a bushing compensated routing template to do this. But I could be wrong. Anyway you look at it great job [clap] [clap] [clap]

I would not have picked those woods to go all together in one instrument, but I have to say I'd have been wrong. It's beautiful. I agree with Todd the back of the headstock is stunning! Bravo, subtle yet amazing at the same time.

I've built a few hybrids too although the fans just replaced the tone bars. I liked them.

What makes the X "flying"? It looks like maybe it doesn't touch the end of the bridge?
