Geordi, I wanted to build a smaller guitar for comfort (a la 000), but not sacrifice volume and tone. Steve Grimes is my inspiration. He made a presentation to the local Seattle Luthiers group where he described his theory that a large uninterrupted soundboard produced larger sound. It also allows lighter bracing. He has built guitars for Keola Beamer, George Benson and Willy Nelson to name a few. Check his site out (www.grimesguitars.com). I wanted to test the theory myself so I used a 000 plan and used the modified soundhole and bracing. Its been compared side by side with a Martin 000-18, a Collings and a various Taylors with very favorable results. So I'm sold on the concept. Thanks for asking. Rich

Some lutes and viholas had the double or triple soundhole thing going also, way back when. It sounds almost dobroish, "perfect" for a blues geet.
