So I was reading the fall 08 edition article on wood and tone and the section on Engelmann states "Engelmann is also known as white, European or German spruce, although they are technically different species." Anyone heard this one before, or are they just wrong???

Yes,
It's been reported that some wood dealers will pawn off Engelman as Euro.
I don't believe any of our fine sponsors incorporate this practice however.

Yeah its very common for engleman to be sold as euro spruce.
i know of one company on europe that buys engleman in the states and then sells it back as euro.
however i think its a practice that is frowned upon and not done so much today.

but the woods CAN BE very simalar and stocks can be mixed up my accident as well.

I've seen that they have similar properties, as described on RCs page and I believe LMI, but never that they were called the same.

So...if someone buys a Taylor with "Engelmann", they could be putting any of those on there??? Dosnt seem right. They may not actually be doing that though.
