I've always put a few coats of shellac on my tops prior to finishing. I sand the whole top pretty thoroughly before spraying, but of course there is a thin film of shellac everywhere, including under the bridge patch. I've never had any trouble with the bridge coming unglued.
On a current build, however, I've put more coats of shellac on than usual, in order to cover up some slight irregularities in the top surface. I'm sanding back significantly, but there is probably more shellac on the surface than usual. Should I be worried about the glue adhering under the bridge, or rather, failing to adhere, and the bridge lifting? Are most folks sanding or scraping all the way back to wood under the bridge patch?
