What's a good, basic, cost effective file for deburring screws? On some of the old guitars around here the screws are a little messed up and I think they would look a whole lot nicer if they were slightly deburred. Thanks.

If you're talking about machine screws, then either a thread file or a die are what I use.

I suspect you're referring to the slot or cross on the head of the screws getting burred by
improper screwdriver bits, or from excessive force being used to loosen a tight screw. I
us a small, fine flat file to remove those burrs, like the ones that come in small needle file
sets, or like a points file (for those of us old enough to remember cars with carburetors
and points).

Thanks guys. I should have been more specific. I'm talking mainly about some old Phillips head screws. David it sounds like a thread file would be more useful for restoring the threads to the screw. I'm just looking to clean up the heads of some old Phillips I have. Their threads are fine.
