Wondering what approach others take to filling gaps in Mahogany (Neck). In the past I have mixed some wood dust with titebond, white glue and epoxy. Have also tried filling with mahogany dust abd then wicking cyano. None of these approaches work well (unless I am missing something). You can always see the fill area. WHat is your best practice for this, ?

Rich bro I dawn a rubber glove and paint epoxy (finishing resin or West Systems) with one finger on the non-flat areas. For the flat areas I use a credit card as a masher and squeegee. You can use your finger to squeegee off excess too which leaves you with less sanding to do.

Although the body seems to always take two applications the neck, with the gloved finger technique, usually comes out great after one application.

Thanks guys but I think you are referring to por filling. I am talking about filling a gap or defect like a worm hole or defect.

Rich, the dust/glue slurry method is a common way to hide defects though perhaps not the best method for lighter colored woods.

For wormholes and other larger defects this Plugger by Veritas/Lee Valley may be what you are looking for:

JJ .. I use the CA method .. but you will need to mix the mahogany dust with a little maple or something lighter first (and then try it out) .. then the CA will darken closer to the natural mahogany colour.

Thanks Tony, blending in some maple sounds logical and I will experiement with that approach
