I`m going to build a Ukulele for my grandaughter. She absolutely loves it when Papa, that`s me, plays the guitar. She always joins in with her toy Ukulele.I know ,there`s a couple of different books, and I was wondering from some of you Uke builders which one,if any you prefer. Also the best place for materials.

you probably have enough scrap in your shop to make a soprano sized uke. Here is a link to a plan:

Also try hanalima.com

As John stated, Mike Chock (Hana Lima I`a) has plans (and kits), as well as a book to go along with his kit. If you're into Spanish heels, you're set.

David Hurd (Kawika `Ukulele) has a very descriptive site, and he will left brain you till no end.

Kathy Matsushita has also gone through an `ukulele build (not sure if its still on her site).

Basically, when guitar makers build `ukulele, they generally (not always) overbuild the first time (especially Steel String builders). Think classical, and think light, and you'll be fine.

The uketalk.com has a discussion forum with a luthier section.
