Has anyone made a nylon stringed Sitka bearclaw top guitar. I am wondering what thickness I should start with. I am looking top build two matching guitars , one left one right for my so and I. I am looking for some past examples that anyone may have done.

Thanks

Blake

Why not just measure the stiffness and go from there? Bearclaw wood tends, according to Brian Burns' to be somewhat less stiff along the grain on the average than straight-grained stock, but if you can find a low-density piece that should not be too much of a penalty. Given the wide range of variation in any species of wood the only really reliable way to know how thick to go is to measure, bearclaw or not

What Al & Filippo.

I have one in my shop that is 8 years old.
Bubinga B & S.
Spalted Maple neck.Lite in weight!
Sounds very good.
Loud,balanced & clear.
Great note to note definition.
No unwanted overtones.
We used the 51 Barbero bracing from R.E.Brunes'plan.
Nice old lite Rio bridge.
12 hole bridge.

Top thickness for this guitar was
2.3mm under bridge.
tapering to 2mm on the lower bout edges(before binding)
around the S.H. and to the 12th fret top is 2.5mm
Back 2.5mm+/-
Sides 2.3mm before sanding & scraping.

Mike
