You've got a really nice touch on that carving - artistically that is. But don't let that go to your head. ;)

Thanks for posting!

Like all your builds my friend, very cool! I suppose the big question is "what happens when you plug it in"?

The collage is nice but how about a few full size photos. Good to see you're keeping busy.

Cheerio,
Danny

Glad to see this one finally finished up! Looks pretty crooked :D Perhaps a reflection of the maker? Or simply the trees it was built from :)

Cool hybrid paddle/scroll headstock, and lovely carvings as always.

So what me learn from this build? Simple ...me realized me really don't know Jack $hift about looferism...

What exactly do you mean by that? Is there something wrong with the sound or playability, or just more difficult than you'd imagined doing it without measuring?

Good questions Dennis....good questions.

No matter how good me chops gets, me realize there is always better chops to be got. Just like pork chops...there be the ones in the supper market frozen plastic wrap packages...the ones from the butcher and then the really fresh bloody ones from the farmer.

No, NOthing stands still...all matter and energy is integrating or disintegrating, (some times right before yer very eyes.) Growing, learning, getting better is personal choice. Me chooses to gets better at loofering...best way be for duh ?adma to accept him don't know diddly squat about looferin around and grow from there. Then maybe, hopefully the next one be a bit better.

As a maker of sawdust and strung out instruments...me firmly believes the only measurement you really need is the sting length...every thing else can simply be a scribe cut and fit and how she feels between yer fingers. Waz the old saying..."if it feels good..." And since this sucker ain't got no frets....me really didn't even need the string length.
Thinks about it. Ya that's right...in the plural ~ lots of thinking. laughing6-hehe

blessings,
the pretty crooked
?adma

Ps...she sounds great n plays fine. But then whats the measuring stick for great and fine? Even more important...do you know which end is the dirty end of that stick? Hmmm? [headinwall]

Oh and by the way Dennis, me hat is off to you for that Coral Snake Build. A1 in me books.

Ah, that kind of nothing. Lots of different kinds of nothing. Just like there are lots of different kinds of something. But there aren't any other kinds of things, other than "no" and "some"... as far as I know.

But you know, knowing is only half the battle. I'm pretty sure the other half is doing. And you sure done did some nice loofering on that thing, so just keep at it and hopefully you'll know something eventually :)

I have more trouble with the doing part myself. Much better at reading and thinking. I definitely know more than I did when I started, but still lots more experiments to do before I can judge how much I don't know.

Dirty end is the one I use to squish spiders with... measuring stick is great spider squisher. Long so I don't have to get my hand too close to the suckers, stiff enough to dangle above 'em, but springy enough to flatten on the floor.

But I'm not really sure what's the proper conversion factor from centimeters to greatness, or inches to fineness.

Thanks :) Sounds great and plays fine... now where's that conversion chart?

Amazing, Mr. Padma!
Brings back memories of watching my grandfather carve gunstocks.
Beautiful instruments.

Came out great, I'm glad you posted that. I enjoy the results of your artist's approach to instrument building and I do admire your carving skills.

This whole luthier thing has sure turned out to be a lot more complicated than I expected. Each build I do I find that when I'm done, even if I met the expectations I started out with, there's a whole new level out in front of me. I like it that way.

Amen!

Yup resting on laurels is ego at its finest.

Onwards...and if you come to a fork in the road...take it. laughing6-hehe

See, that's exactly what I'm talking about... it'll be great when it's done, but guess what? It ain't done! All summer I've been meaning to finish deepening the fret slots so I can thin down the board to correct for my misjudging the appropriate thickness for the planned string-height-at-bridge (hey, maybe I'm not so good at thinking either...)

After that I may need to adjust the neck angle a teensy bit too, but due to my obsession with integral necks that's kind of a pain, and needs to be done in low humidity, i.e. not summer. But it's dry as a bone in here now, so just a matter of picking the thing up one of these days instead of sitting here typing on a computer.

Maybe tomorrow.

So now I have TWO favorite build threads ever:

1)Padma's Workshop, I'd love to come see it in person some day.
2)This incredible bass!

Hats off to the TRUE Guitar Whisperer!

A bass fit for an elfin king.
Only wish the photos were bigger to get a better look.
You have to do a sound clip. Now.
