I started trying to play guitar back in the 1950s during the folk music craze. Several years later in college I heard flamenco for the first time and was hooked. In the 1970s I met Richard Schneider and spent lots of time in his shop (I also met Jeffery Elliot there) and became interested in making guitars. After I retired from gainful employment in the 2000s and started building flamenco guitars in earnest. So far I've made about 30 guitars and want to start building classical guitars too. It's been something of a trek, but I still love it.

As a child I watched a cartoon called Arthur and Friends. There was an introverted character named George Lundgren who was a moose. He built a guitar with his dad, played it in a concert, and it helped him connect with his classmates. In high school I tried the same tactic to impress girls. But as it turned out, I liked building more than the social attention it afforded me. Nowadays I spend more time in my basement working on wood, and I have no regrets.
