I think he means taking what people say with a pinch of salt, i.e. maintaining a skeptical mindset to what people say.
Rarely a bad thing in moderation...

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Sorry for the confusion on that. Colin has one of the best decriptions that I'll have to use.

Seriously, the hardest part about a substantial purchase like this, sight unseen, is qualifying all of the reviews. Before I got mine, I looked for "better" just to see what was out there. My research may have been biased because what I was really doing was comparing all the others to Fuji, so really not fair to the others. Oh well. I did have requirements though, gravity feed and non-bleed, and researched from there.

Would be interesting to see if you tried it, and what you come up with.

About 5-6 years ago, Fuji was developing a new technology hvlp conversion spray gun. I would email a couple of times a year to see if anything was immanent. They responded that they could not make it cost effective, and might possibly revisit research in the future. Maybe it would have eaten into their turbine sales. I bought a Wagner conversion gun, instead.

You guys are SO bad for me. Got the Fuji Minimite 4 with gravity feed T75 gun sitting in my Amazon basket. Waiting for my wife to accidentally include it in her weekly shopping. Hehe

Bad is when you do that, AND you get reminded that you may as well get a box of these (I like 'em)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UF ... ge_o01_s00
And while you're at it, may as well order one of these

Yup, that's it Mike. No problems with orange peel when you have one of those!

Question: do HVLP systems like the Fuji make it remotely safer to spray volatiles like Nitro?

They are still "spray" (overspray) guns. Properly adjusted I would rate the risk about the same. Brushing might be less risky.

I've been using an old Binks touch up gun which is 40+ years old.
Rebuilt 4 times, and the last time didn't work,
so I bought a Sharpe Finex.
Much better results.
I learned later from Brian that the tip should be 1.2 mm and mines 1 mm.
Oh well, works good enough.
Clean up? Blow solvent through, and soak the cup and tip in solvent, then after session, thoroughly clean.
Get an adjustable pressure gauge at the gun.

No adjustable gauge for Mike. Funny, you would think there would be one, especially since the instructions say to reduce the flow at the gun for smaller spray patterns, which I usually never spray a full wide fan, so its trial, but not too much error. Again, spraying "wet as a lake" is something I've learned to do since going turbine.

I just was thinking with the lower pressure, less overblow and atomization would reduce amount of free floating volatiles. IMHO, you'd have to brush on a ton of nitro in a very confined space to achieve anything close to the problem created with high pressure spray. No?

I guess I'm looking for an excuse to go nitro. I really want to use it.
