There's a reason for that. Over the years, an accumulation of stupid, annoying, and downright evil wears down our patience. I've embraced my grumpy curmudgeonliness.

...also our youthful naivety and idealism evaporates, as we "get real" and dispense with open mindedness and follow only what we "know" to be true and right...
...but i am being sarcastic- i do think it is true that we become more closed minded as we age, because quite simply it is easier. it is natural, but usually poisonous.
having said that, i am a solid half way to the grave(statistically), and i definitely catch myself sometimes in the realization that i am on that same bitter, closed minded trajectory as many folks, and i make attempts to fight it when i can.
but like most behavior i think it is a habit that can be changed with some effort.
feel free to remind me of this pontification in the future when i slip up

I concur. I hate working with people my age. I'd much rather work with someone who is older and knows what they are doing.

If a forum claims to be moderated...it should be moderated consistently.

Nature provides that forums ostensibly moderated...but without a consistent dictate...will go through cycles wherein the mice start playing and the cat arbitrarily comes in and eats a few of them.

Oooh My Gosh - I hope the Stock hasn't been eaten!! pizza

I sure couldn't eat one myself - think of the indigestion.!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

The Stock is usually simmered with a few others before they wind up in the soup.

Lance, all the best to you and your wife. I didn't see the ivory thread either, and I have a sense of where Todd's political views lie from many of his posts, but I'm sorry it had to devolve like that. Todd's knowledge and experience will be sorely missed (and why did his tutorials have to go?).

I don't think it got pulled for political content as much as it did when it went from nuts to balls.

That wasn't Lance's decision, to be fair.

They're all on Youtube though, just search Todd Stock or Greenridge Guitars

Thankfully his videos are. Unfortunately the countless, "You'll want to make sure the Nicholson's were made in the USA and not Brazil - call this guy to see if he still has some USA made new old stock," type comments aren't.

Personally, I received good advice from Stock, and there were times when Padma gave exactly the advice I needed to hear. And, I often found Padma's work very inspirational, not just because of his skill, but because of his different approach. That being said, this forum does have rules, and none are exempt.

But just a thought, I belong to another forum (different subject matter) that has an "Off Topic" segment that includes a place for political threads. People rant same as here, but it is in another section of the forum. So if you want to go there, go there, but if a thread wanders there, it can be moved to there.

Not a bad system to have such out of the main discussions, because I don't come here for politics.

Actually that's a GREAT idea.
We could also have a "Fights" section for fight threads, and if threads turn nasty, they can be moved there too!

I'm NOT being sarcastic, I promise, I actually like the idea.

My only concern would be the potential for just about every thread to get transferred to one or the other and there'd be no more threads in the building section..

Maybe the rule would have to be that political or fight threads would have to originate in the proper forum.

If the thread TURNS political or fightey then it would have to be deleted, encourage people to discuss things appropriately.

I vote no, too many ifs and buts, who needs it. Take it outside, leave this place to those interested in the craft of building instruments.

I agree. It makes me wince when I'm reading a thread and someone slips in a comment about religious beliefs or political ideology. Sometimes I have to restrain myself from posting a comment back and starting an argument. But that's what we have to do- concentrate on the craft, it's far more interesting.

I also vote "No" to the idea of allowing political expressions in an off topic section. There would be too much potential for it leaking into the other parts of the forum. It's a simple rule and easy to understand its necessity. People should just follow it.

Man, I still think a fight section would work though.
If you don't wan to read the fights, you don't have to...

If you have a beef with someone, post a thread calling them out!

Something like, "So-and-so, you talk like a stupid caveman and I hate your guts!!"

It could be the only section where cursing IS allowed......'

The only danger is that, since those threads tend to get the most views and go the longest, Lance might have to make it the main forum as it filled with content.

How about that?

Really?? Is there no where on this planet where a large group of people can't get along??

I honestly think this would be the demise of the OLF, creating a "fight" section would only bread hate among some members and other threads would get tarnished or totally destroyed by that hate.

I would leave in a second if there were ever a "fight" section.

I don't think that a political b$tch slap section can keep any acrimony from spilling into other forum rooms, and affecting the exchange of ideas and advise. Some people just can't agree to disagree, and leave it at that. Just my 2 cents, and at the current exchange rate, it doesn't amount to much!

If I am not mistaken I think that is what PM's are for. Last I knew there was no restrictions on foul language, politics or religion if you are sending someone a PM...
How about making everyone use a real picture of themselves instead of an avatar. I think people would be much less prone to argue if the can see who they are talking with.

I still say everyone should listen to Leon Redbone, it will lower your blood pressure and put a smile on your face... (plus he plays a CF-100)

I mean how much better can a song lyrics get?

Quote:
Forget about the blues
Your Doin fine
Leave your cares and worries far behind
Loosen up your tie
Let the world creep by
Relax

Cheers,
Bob
