Hesh O.k O.K. Im new too although I'm sort of old acording to my young and beautiful girl friend. I built my first elec. about 30 years ago and then got married and had kids and bands etc. and stopped building . So after marriage kids and bands I took a job at Exotic Woods in Burlington Ont. building tables, windows , boatparts, and just about anything you can think of made out of wood .At that point Im still playing but this wierd guy starts showing up once a week or so and he keeps scooping the best guitar wood I've been cutting. wwwwwwwwwwwweell piss me off but at this point I,m planning on starting to build and who is this guy anyway? So I start looking for a teacher and believe me we get lots and lots of builders looking for stuff anyway I narrow it down to a few excellent builders and low and behold the wierd guy is in the top three [ humph] Well narrow it down a bit more and the wierd guy wins I'd like to thank Tony Karrol for being the wirrd guy and teaching me so much over the last 4 years Tony still has some of the best wood and atitude I've ever seen he introduced me to this form and all of you Thanks man! P.S. Tony builds one hell of a guitar So there you go Hesh another wierdo hits the form thanks for your encouragement. Joe bliss posting.php?mode=reply&f=10101&t=19437#

Been lurking and a member for about a year....completed 13 steelstring flattops over the past four years (dreads, 000, OM), finishing up ukulele #5 (tenor) hopefully this thanksgiving weekend. Simply a relaxing hobby that combines acoutics, engineering, craftsmanship, etc....and brings wood to life.

Thanks to you guys for your advise, tips, etc. Building is a bit like cooking with recipes, I guess, in that there are many paths to the final result...to each his/her own.

My inspirations?- Cumpiano, The Red Books, the Green Books, OLF forum.

I'll get around to posting some pics.....

Hi,
My turn to be polite and say hello too.
My name is Christophe Grellier. I am a french guitarmaker.
I come here regularly. This is a really great forum. A lot of interesting topics !
Unfortunalty, although I understand english pretty well, I feel more difficult to write in english, so I mainly read. Sorry.
A big thanks to the people who make this forum alive.

I've lurked several years, I love to look at pictures of your shops. I build vintage style acoustics, a couple at a time. I've done repairs for 30 years, but am just building now, no more repairs. I don't have much time to enter into discussions, I'll just check in once or twice a week.

Hey Hesh,

I'm relatively new on the Forum. Must say that this is a great resource for
newbie builders like myself. So I spent much of my time here observing and learning.

Hi Luc! Welcome to the OLF my friend! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap]

I can think of at least 3 very fine builders in the Toronto area so you will probably learn more about them by hanging out here.

Welcome aboard!

I've been lurking for awhile, but haven't posted anything yet. I am working on my 3rd and 4th classicals, but it's been 2-3 yrs since my 2nd, so I am sort of having to relearn a lot. Lurking here has been an inspiration to get me building again.

Hi all,
It's a pleasure reading through the posts on this website. Plenty of hints. My name is jacques, i've been practising luthery for 5 years now. I've built about 10 instruments (OM, weissenborn, ukulele, 12 string). Im' actually building 2 new instruments. A ukulele in amaranth (not sure of the translation here) and a 12 string jumbo with florentine cutaway in sapele.
This last instrument is built with Christophe Grellier's wonderful help at his workshop and should be over in a few months.
I have much more to learn than to teach so I don't think I will post very much but I'm sure I will read a lot!
I got a whole bunch of future projects: adjustable neck experiences, resonator guitar, new weissenborn, electric lap steel, j-45 and so on, so you'll definitely see me connected often.

Thank you for this forum

jacques

There you go then, an OM and a weissenborn that I finished

And the ukulele i'm workin' on. I'll try to take some good pics of the 12-string.

I'm also working on a tutorial to make a radius dish but I think you already have that kind of stuff here (and better!)

I've been lurking a lot lately. The job has got me working overtime and the new business isn't helping... Oh well, maybe someday I'll finish #1. [headinwall]

Hi everyone,
I'm Maurits from the Netherlands. Not much of a builder yet, have only built a pair of electric basses so far.

After dreaming of building for several years me and a friend finally jumped in and went for it with quite decent results if I do say so myself. Then the next step would be building an acoustic of some sort, and I chose to build a Weissenborn so I bought a kit from australiantonewoods.com some time ago and I'm just about getting ready to get cracking on that. So far I've only done the 12th fret inlay, not the neatest job in the world but I'm quite pleased with it.

So I hope to learn all I need to here on the forum, and I'll probably be badgering you all with loads of questions in the near future.

Cheers.

Hi Maurits and welcome to the OLF my friend! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Your work looks very good and the hummingbird inlay is very cool too.

It's great to have you here!

I'm definitely a lurker in most forums that I read daily including this one. So far I've completed a StewMac Uke kit and I'm waiting any day now for the top, back and sides to get here for my first build - an all mahogany 000, 1 3/4 nut, 24.9 scale. I've got my mold built and a simple go bar deck ready (thanks to help from my much more experienced wood-working brother).

So hi everyone and thanks for all the tips and help that I soak up here.

I am new here. I am an accomplished wood worker but I have always hated "finishing". Knowing that the finish is so very important for guitars I came here looking for information on pore filling and finishing. Hesh was just happening to create a tutorial on using z-poxy which was incredibly good timing for me as I was seriously considering using that product. Thanks to that excellent toot I have pore filled my first guitar and I am stoked with the results. My ktm-9 froze solid when it was shipped so I am awaiting another shipment to complete the finish on my first.

I cannot pretend to give advice on building guitars but I can probably help with general woodworking questions and using hand tools if called upon and am eager to help where I can.

If my experience as a new user is typical, don't expect to hear from us until we've pored over all 294 pages in the archived threads! It became a priority for me after joining up once I discovered how much invaluable information is stored there. I think my knowledge doubled in the weeks I spent absorbing all that I could from that vast bank of shared knowledge and discussions.

Thanks all - what a fantastic resource!

Cheers
Pete
