Looks great, but i gotta agree with bluescreek. I can't imagine a wooden pickguard wouldn't act like a large bridge plate glued to the top and dampen the top vibration. Of course, how thick are we talking here, .5mm laminate? If so probably no big deal then.

I was prepared to not like it but looks-wise it fits in well. What's the finish on that guitar? It looks kind of satin. Would you finish the pick guard or just polish the wood?

Unless it is a commission and specifically ordered as a wood guard I'd also recommend leaving it unattached and let the potential buyer decide.

Nice job.

John,

It weighs less than a normal tort guard, and it's got amazing tap tone (ha). So I don't think there's much affect. .2 Hz in fact, which I can live with.

TK, it is a satin finish guitar, the pg just has a quick linseed wipe...

Traveling through northern Argentina, a farmer that I met gave me a big black hunk of walnut from his barn. Two years later I made a slice of it into a pickguard on my first electric build.
Yours looks quite nice!!

Sorry for the crappy pic:

I've seen some ugly wooden pick guards before, but that one is definitely classy. Thin, nice shape and nice grain color that compliments the rest of the design
That rug on the other hand......
