Lonnie: with a simple honing guide and a few decent water-stones a fine edge on a plane blade isn´t an hard endeavor. i´m sure it´d be easier than sharpening a pocket knife.
I´m yet to get a scraper fine enough not to leave a corduroy appearance on spruce, but on the inside it can´t do no harm.

Well this may sound crazy but I bought a thickness planer. The guy I bought it from installed new blades. When he delivered it to me he handed me the old blades said these make great scrapers. That they do. I've used them on occasion. They work better then my planes. Lol
