Tru-Oil and 220 or 320 grit works great for pore filling on some woods. Sand with wet Tru-Oil and pack the slurry into the pores with a credit card or one of those plastic Bondo squeegees. Drying is an issue on some Rosewoods. I'm told it will dry, but takes a long time on the Rosewoods. I've never been patient enough to find out!

Ken did you use a buffer? Lance, you finished and buffed out in 1 day? How many coats of Ca approximate? I`ve used it on about the last ten guitars for pore fill.I love it.I just put on a mask and turn on a fan.I`d like to try and use it for a finish. It seems it would be hard to apply evenly.I`ve pore filled with nitrile gloves like you Ken,but I`ve never worried about trying to apply it evenly.

I actually finished it over two days but had I started in the morning I could have finished it in the same day.
I did not count the coats. Probably between 5 and 10. First coats go on thin and then I apply thicker coats.
The amount of coats is not important, what is important is to have it thick enough before you sand it level.
Especially make sure edges are thick enough to avoid sant through. Of course the more even you apply it the easier it is to sand level.
But I just get it on thick and don't worry too much about the coats all being level. It's pretty easy to sand flat.
Applying thinner coats allows each coat to dry faster which means you can apply the next coat sooner.
If you notice some areas are getting thicker then on the next coat apply thinner coat to tat area and thicker to the other areas and you can get it pretty even before you are done.
Best advice is to get it on thick so you have plenty to sand down.
It gets easier once you learn the behavior of the CA
Try it on some scrap wood, just apply a thick coat of medium gel and sand it down and polish it and you'll see the potential.

I buff with a Shop Fox buffer, Menzerna compounds and 12" airway buffs. I've had no trouble with burning through. But I use a different CA than Lance does. For acoustics the finish has to be thinner than electrics but I still apply the CA thicker than I do with spraying other finishes because I know I'll have more leveling to do. I'm testing Starbond odorless to see if it will be as good as the Bob Smith Super Gold. It can be purchased in 16 ounce bottles and is a lot less expensive than other non-fuming CA. The disadvantage with the Starbond is that it doesn't come in medium viscosity but the thin stuff seems to apply more evenly when it doesn't run. I'll keep you posted.

I'll use it without the fan, but this is definitely a good method when you're really pouring it on and it works well.

If you have a large spray booth, setup in there and run the fan to draw the fumes away from you and the work.
In the old days, my Binks booth was at another location and I couldn't leave to just do CA work.
If it had been in-shop at the music store.... another story.
