Our old friend Padma made his own cases, and used expanding foam ( the insulation type) around a buck of the instrument shape. This would work well for custom sizes using gutted cases.

I used Cedar Creek years ago and maybe their customer service has improved since then but I had a hard time getting what I needed in a reasonable amount of time. It was even hard to get a hold of the service rep on the phone. I liked the lower weight and lower price but what really caused me to look elsewhere were the quality of the case covering and the quality of the hardware. Ameritage is far superior in those two areas. The problems with Ameritage are weight, cost and customer service. So I can't recommend either at this point.

I have been buying six to twelve cases a year from Cedar Creek, usually the TKL Prestige series (I don't do nearly the volume that would be needed to buy directly from TKL which is located in the same building). The price that they give me is very good, better than I can get anywhere else. They said I could get an additional discount if I went to dealer status and ordered two dozen at a time. I don't have the storage for that ( or a lot of extra cash laying around either).

I made the mistake of buying 24 cases from TKL several years ago. I stored them in the attic space of my shop. Somehow some rodents got into the attic and chewed the covering off about half the cases. It was an expensive mistake that I haven't repeated. Now I live so far out in the country that I don't have any customers for cases so I stick with buying 2-3 at a time from Ameritage. I doubt rodents would find ballistic nylon particularly tasty plus my new shop is rodent proof (I hope).

The rodents were probably going after the hide glue in the cases. Yum!

I bought 3 of the Ameritage Gold Series cases now. My grand auditorium shape fits their "OLF" standard case, they were always in stock, good quality so a great experience.

I don't mind the weight, which is why they are all I use now. Besides, I need the exercise! My cases don't move all that much, but I don't see having accidents because of a heavy guitar case. :?
