Lots of great stuff. James what's the main ring of yours made of?

I've used various burr (burl) woods with similar colour - I think this one is camphour burr, but I've also used Thuya and redwood burr.

I really like rosettes that bring color into the guitar and give a good sense of line. I get there with the basics . . . shell and colored purf. I'd love to bust out a technicolor Kostal-esq stained glass kind of thing, but I gotta keep it within my skill set ;)

It does, indeed, have spruce missing. Due to my not planning it out from the beginning and doing too much routing at once. Would have been better served to install one ring at a time to maintain the corners.

In person, the voids present as black shadowed areas, and actually look pretty cool, so I'nm going to leave them as is. Drop fill the gaps when finishing.

This one isn't for sale, so, I'll deal with it as is. Learning curve.

I think I'll try this again, but put alot more thought into it next time. This was to try and fix an earlier stuff up. I like it, but I think it coulod look really cool, so I'll keep working on it.....

Kind of like spirograph drawing from when I was a kid.....

The rest of you obviously know what you are doing..... [clap]

I totally dig it and didn't notice the missing wood, I just thought it was some kinda shading.

Can't wait to see the next one!

I like the overall look, but just wanted to note you will need to do something to those holes besides drop filling. Epoxy fill seems in order.

Here's one we're taking to Healdsburg.

Cheers, Aaron. They are actually filled at this point. When I was sanding the whole thing flush, I left the dust in the corners, and layed on a coat or two of shellac, and rthen a drop on CA, so I think it's all pretty stable.

As I said, I think I want to do some more of these and experiment with different circle patterns and possibly dyes in the spruce areas.....Don't know. I think I want the next one to be more delicate/elegant.....I have a bunch of .5mm plastic purfling that gives a nice clean line and some good contrast against the top, so I think I'll try that next time round......

My first guitar and rosette. Im much further along now but just havn't had a chance to resize and upload more pictures. I actually decided on making the rosette smaller in order to accomodate the purfling lines without looking too chunky for an OM sized guitar. I will see if I can get a pic of the rosette installed uploaded soon, the black purfling line really makes it stand out.

Ah, thanks for posting those, Marcus.
YOU are the one that gave inspiration for our rosette pictured above.
The 3-D, shadow effect of that 3rd rosette you pictured is what got the imagination flowing for me.
I just couldn't remember who had done that. So I owe you!
Thanks mate,

Steve

Waddy, I really do admire those classical rosettes; and I'm also a fan of the "art deco" look of a lot the rosettes that have been posted in this thread. Really good work guys.

Martin, You reminded me of my 'art deco'. The guitar is on hold until I complete a 'rush order'.

Joe, that's what I'm talking about - classic "deco" - definitely something out of the 1920s-1940s. Great look IMO!

Thank you Martin. I kind of worked out a whole art deco thing for this guitar. It should be interesting if nothing else.

That is a terrible picture. Let me see if I can post a better one.
