I have been working on the two Ziricote guitars I started in November. http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=38584, The 00 is ready for closing the box and the OM is close behind. I have the neck ready for the 00 and the one for the OM rough carved. These will be my 1st bolt on necks with the 00 completely removable and the OM with a glued down fingerboard extension.

Wow! Lot's of good work going on. It's great to see so many inspired efforts and to be able to see what everyone is up to. Well done!

I'm in the set up stage of number 4 and barely getting started on number 5: a sinker redwood/walnut 12-fret slope D. I've shown the woods before, but I think they are lovely so will share them again:

Decided to try inlaying the rosette and cutting the soundhole by hand:

Nice and clean! I like it:

That sure looks wonderful George! Walnut and sinker redwood is visually a killer combo (better only Macassar ebony and sinker redwood IMHO)... I'm sure it'll turn out lovely.

I'm trying to joint the 2 soundboard pieces... [headinwall] on my first-ever build.

I know that feel, bro. It's easy if you have a long, flat, sharp and finely set plane, but near impossible otherwise. At least softwoods can squeeze out gaps a little, plus you really only have to get the part below the soundhole perfect since the headblock, upper transverse brace, and fingerboard extension hold everything together up there.

But rosewood backs have to be absolutely perfect the whole way, or it pops right apart. Although you can inlay a half-thickness backstrip to hold an imperfect joint together. Then the inside cross-grain strip holds the other side of it, so the original edge joint is entirely enclosed.

As for me, I haven't done anything since the end of the challenge, but have been pondering various options for my Black Rose build, so I may get back to work on that soon. Option B is to start my first harp guitar, although I haven't been able to get the back/side set I wanted for it so I may have to design a new one to do first, and such design hasn't hit me just yet (odd, because I usually have many more design ideas than time to build them). And of course I should actually get around to installing the back binding on the challenge guitar at some point...

man, I'm getting more done today then I thought I would. cut the neck joint on the body and the neck. cut the fretboard out and installed the binding. waiting for it to dry so I can put the fret markers in. may even try and finish level sanding and put a coat of Zpoxy on it. is there anything I should look out for when putting a finish on paduke?

I'm inlaying some mother of pearl--my second pass at this task. I did a great job of sawing, filing, and sanding the pearl pieces. I am feeling pretty clumsy about excavating the inlay cavities. Too soon to post pictures, but they will follow if this thread is still alive in a day or two.

Thanks for axe-ing!
Started assembling my new 14" bandsaw X-mas present. Got the base and rolling stand put together before my back gave out.
I can't wait to start resawing. Tuned up my table saw and changed my thickness planer blades.
I finished the body core and edge banding for an Explorer I'm working on today and rough cut the headstock materials.
