No pics but I just strung up my first Selmer guitar. What a weird little thing that is.

Curiously, aside from the fact that I walk by Manuel Bellido's, Antonio Marin's and Antonio Raya Pardo's shops twice a day every day, the trip has had no guitar content.

Go see a Flamenco show.

I'm working away for a couple of months so no progress, but just wanted to say looking good guys. Nice stuff guys, particularily to Waddy and Stephen (fantistic rosette design - reminds me almost of Esher's work))
Douglas, you may be a little insane, but WOW - looks as if that is going to be really classy. Looking forward to seeing that finished.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Nice looking guitarts everyone .. love the look of that snakewood Dave Wren .. will be around to check that one out maybe Thursday evening if you are setting up then.

I got my two newest done to take ot Montreal as well .. one a slope dread in curly claro and adi, the other the new rendition of the Belair harp in cocobolo and bearclaw sitka ... getting the pro pix done tomorrow.

Once I get some time I will resize the pix of #101 ... its a neat one ...

Trying to decide if I'm going to go with this board and inlay. Nothing inlaid yet , just laying ruff on board.

Oh, no. I am insane. I have a certificate from my wife attesting to it.

Have indeed done that several times. Saw Nino de Pura a month or so back - amazing technique as a soloist. This week we saw Juan Habichuela Nieto's group play. He's still very very young by flamenco standards - 23 I think. Good player but not all there melodically/harmonically yet.

Got out of Granada today, up north to Santander. It's been 110F out on the streets in the afternoon since this past weekend - so glad to hit the road. In Santander (on the north coast), they think 80 is hot.

I just started a new pair. One for me, another for a client. His will be Tasmanian Myrtle and Lutz, and mine is Wenge and Italian. His rosette is blue, mine is green.

Wes Lewis, I'd love to hear your take on the sound of this guitar when it's finished.

Stephen Boone, Great shop! Love the playing area.

David Wren, your work always delights, as does your photographic eye. I aspire to your skill level in all counts.

Gary Lee.....beautiful instrument, quite stunning!

James... now I know I've really got to get your bridges going. What pin spacing do you need on these two, and what materials? Give me a call this evening and we'll discuss. I'll PM you my number.

Ah yes the North of Spain, different country, different climate! I loved it up there.

I think that 35 is hot.

But then I count hot in Celsius...

Another day of it today to get the IPC knocked out...102 F forecast...and flying the Diamond again....at least the approaches are flown at higher altitudes than the pattern work.

If we did not have to get our flight testing done by August, I'd do all this in October...

My hot is in an F4 at last chance in the desert at Edwards AFB sitting there with the canopies closed because you're behind a heavy waiting to take off. F4 air conditioning didn't work worth a flip until airborne and wasn't all that great at low speed/low altitude either. Just part of the joys of flight.

What IS your career, Todd (if I can ask)? Obviously a pilot, but in what venue? With your skill level, I assumed all your time was spent doing lutherie......

Retired in 2005 - flew military on active duty and in the Reserves for a good chunk of my 30 years in. Spent some time flying commercial, but I have a very low threshold of boredom, so not anything I really liked. Day job is as an engineer (aerospace) ... handle my own flight testing for the systems we develop, so needed to get current again after a couple years...hence, the opportunity to sit in an airborne sauna today. Fun job...was on the 2007 Collier-winning industry team, so it's working out OK. Little airplanes are fun...

The luthiery stuff will likely be the retirement gig in a decade or two...I shoot for 30-40 hours a week on it. Between day job, building & repair, and trying to get to trails and the gym, I've had to give up sleeping, but I get so many more hours in a day that way.

eek
Honestly Todd, I wish you would get a little more done

That's pretty impressive Todd and I'm not trying to one up you here but this morning I single handedly took out an entire invading squadron of ants who were attempting to conquer my barbecue. I left a sole survivor though. He will be spreading the story amongst his ant buddies of the giant with the can of Raid who vanquished his platoon. I hope they try again. I love the feeling of an impending war. Makes you know you're alive.
