I've been a full time professional woodworker for about 20 years now. Mostly canoe building and repair, and paddle making. Wood and tools are part and parcel of my trade. I buy what I need, enough for a stock to keep in reserve so I'm not running to my lumber supplier for every single project. For tools, I buy only what I need, my tools need to earn their keep.

There's not enough spare money sitting around in my bank account to indulge in TAS and Z/WAS.

This takes a lot of self discipline, but it keeps my wife from getting upset about not having money for feeding the kids. (eat, eat, eat...its just money down the toilet)

I have almost a tool a paycheck problem. Yes I already have two low angle block planes, but what if the one I'm using isn't sharp? I'd have to stop what I'm doing to sharpen it, and would be completely thrown off the project. What's that you say? I should only need two? Look over there, a distraction!
