Thanks for the comprehensive reply Laurie. It's interesting to learn there are builders in Labrador. For some reason, the idea of a guitar coming from there is very appealing. Best wishes for the first guitar parts to roll off the new sander : -)

Thanks - the best part is there is a supplier in Goosebay (2 towns over) who cuts local white spruce for tops - I have a few in the pile for future builds! I never thought to ask if anyone had experience with the Rona brand oops_sign . I would have bought one of the other brands.....oh well...some of us learn the hard way. If I didn't have to put down 25% to order the thing, I'd gladly change my mind! Still has to be better than that Mouse sander I'd been using!

(BTW - Laurie is one of those names that can be both male and female....male in my case, but no worries - its happened my whole life laughing6-hehe )

Sorry. The irony is that I know Laurie is occasionally a male name. In fact, I personally know one, but in this case, I decided to gamble : -)

Don't let a mere deposit scare you into the purchase. If you wanted to cancel and get your money back, I can assure you it can be done. I'd be glad to help, if you run into a problem. I found a place in the U.S. that will ship a Jet 10-20 to anywhere in Canada for $951.13 ($699 base price) all in, taxes, brokerage fees, and shipping. They also sell the 16-32 and 22-44, and might be more competitive than the other sellers you tried.

I'm open for suggestions for a drill press too! I am buying one of those next.

BTW, the drum sander has shipped and shoudl be here monday, so no cancelling the order from Rona. I'll make sure I fill out the warranty card :D

Well, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Like I said I have got a few tops through it to my eventual satisfaction. Just don't buy the Rona replacement belts, get the long rolls from elsewhere and cut to length yourself. Happy sanding, and try hooking up your shopvac to the port and ditch the provided bag.
