Looks fantastic, John. Sounds amazing too.

Is the 4th song played in your clip a Bebo Norman song?

John:

I like the way you understate the bling, but make an elegant, unique statement of each guitar. Every touch is complimentary and the guitar as a visual composition works as one. Love your work!

It is about time to revisit your DVD series with an update, isn't it?

Just beautiful - simply appointed, immaculately executed.

John,
That is an incredible piece of redwood! Awesome guitar, and I think it sounds great through that little mic. I can only imagine what it sounds like in person! Thanks for sharing, and quite inspiring as all your work is. By the way, I'm working on the little maple tenor florentine cutaway that I got from you awhile ago. I'll update you with pics when I'm done. Thanks!

John, can you share some of the build details? The guitar I just finished, made from one of the Carter TB redwood tops, lacks treble, and yours most certainly snaps and sparkles. I've wondered if it's because my top ended up so thin at .105"?

Sure. tell me what you want to know. I just measured this top and, with finish, it is .121 so it's around .116 thick in the center without finish. I don't have a pic of the top bracing but's it's pretty standard. 78 degree X. Tapered not scalloped, .550 tall at intersection. .290 wide. tone bars .250 wide and pretty small tapering in a linear fashion. 2 finger braces per side. .250 wide very small feathering to nothing before lining.

The guitar is a bit warmer than it sounds on the video, but it's a crap camera mic so what ya gonna do. My shotgun mic isn't working because the input finally went kaput on the camera.

Not much left to say John but to agree with all the accolades and then times them by two. Great wood, great guitar. [:Y:] 8-)

Cheers

John I'm nodding my head in aggreement with the others. The smaller guitar sound is really starting to grow on me . That redwood is really something special. [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]

John is the 78 degree X standard for an L -OO size instrument?

Craig

Nope. Much closer to 90 degrees. (I have it marked on my jigs, but it's probably around 85degrees if I'm guessing) Of course that would give it a brighter, more projecting sound, and in my experience Brazilian and redwood don't need any help there. To help even it out a bit I made the angle wider.

EDIT: I was close in my guess. 87.5 from a cad plan I have. See attached picture.

Thanks John. I had my thinking all in reverse. Not uncommon for me I might add :D

What a sweet little guitar. I can't speak about how you play, John, but you sure can build.....
And Burton - just like a true "woodie" - recognizing the set is a sister to one of yours..... man, I'm jealous. That's exactly the Braz look that I love.
