I really like the early stages - going from rough boards, to resawn slabs, to thicknessed pieces, to something that begins to resemble a guitar. Neck and heel carving are right up there.

Things I don't like so much: finish sanding, and, well, pretty much all of the finishing process except the actual spraying, which is enjoyable. I like the results, but it's mostly really tedious. This probably explains why I have about 7 guitars that are almost all 'done' excepting the finishing work.

I just read this while visiting my mother in Tampa, this is from a cruise magazine, It is about a Portugese folk music genre call Fado,
"Fado is that brief moment when we close our eyes and everything is revealed, only to have it slip away from us the moment we open them, Fado is an epiphany" (Ana Bacalhau)

Either playing guitar or building one, these moments come along, rarely at first, but more as we gain skill at the craft, and these moments, of peace, when I feel that I am fulfilling a divine purpose, are my favorite part of building and playing guitar.
Rob
