Leafy Sea Dragons are native to Australia I believe, and yes they are about the most extravagant seahorse out there. The inlay is actually a little larger than life size, but for a seahorse these guys get pretty big. They are so fragile and popular that they are a protected species just to keep aquarium stores from over exploiting them. I have also heard that even such events as a large wave can kill them if they get caught up in a big depth/pressure change, but I find that relatively hard to fathom.

Regardless, they are a "poster child" for reefs, and I always wanted to do one but never felt my abilities were up to it until this year. Lots of thin lines, curves, and the green corian is very frail at this thickness. I routed wide intentionally in the head area, and it will get a black burst to blend it all in later.

The front is all reef and eagle rays. Hopefully it will be finished and at the Miami Newport show.
