I'm building one of them with Chris V right now - madrose jumbo with bearclaw euro spruce top, 25.7" scale.

Other 'dream guitars' include Macassar/Euro Grand A, Macassar/Redwood 00 size, Walnut/Euro Baritone (jumbo), Cocobolo/Euro Grand C/OM size, and I've got some wild-ish plans for a spalt maple back/sides/neck with redwood or WRC top and a 'fall' themed inlay kicking about. That's just for starters; I've got something like 70 sets of back/sides and tops, and I have pretty definite ideas of what I'd like to do with about 30% of them, and reasonably good ideas for quite a few more.

For electrics, one-piece carved black limba singlecut electric with a solid cocobolo neck and either P-90s or some Duncan P-rails. For starters.

Hi Steve,
I'm still trying to get a clear picture of my dream guitar, probably you'll see it in the next GAL convention.
a little hint, it'll have all kinds of wood that i'm trying to gather...

I am still as interested in playing as I am in building. I am more focused on structure than materials, although each guitar I have build so far (8 to date) have all been different combination's of materials.

I keep thinking about being able to create that deep thumping Gibson bass and still have the crystal clear highs and midrange of a Taylor. Just have not figured out how to get there yet.

I also keep thinking of a Jumbo with a 27" scale, tuned to D. I need to start looking at sting tensions and figure this one out. Maybe my next build

Good stuff, guys...thanks for the ideas.
But *whoa* Mattia! So good to hear from you again!
How have you been, and is that degree nearly finished?
(For those fairly new to the forum, Mattia is the most serious wood collector here. So serious in fact, that he's going to medical school to eventually bring in the big bucks to fund his W.A.S. That's dedication.)

Heh.

Keeping busy, trying to wrap up 5 or 6 guitars before the end of the year, and feeling moderately optimistic about succeeding. Haven't bought much tonewood lately, mostly because I'm not sure where to stash it/my girlfriend might kill me a lot if I filled the house with MORE wood.

It's the medical profession that's keeping me busy (I've been a doctor for a little over a year now), moving on to a new job with prospects for specialist training starting monday, so I'll probably still be v.v. busy in the near future. Guitarmaking's one of the things that helps keep me sane! On the upside, new job allows for public transport instead of driving, so I'll have time to sketch/plan/draft various guitar ideas (digitally). Or possibly just sleep. We'll see!

Good for you, Mattia. Now if we harm ourselves in the shop, we can come to you. You do offer an OLF discount, right?

Colin... an FE08 in Snakewood. There's a dream...

Jeff, looking forward to it, bro.

I dream about having an eye so artistic, that I can look at my (considerable) pile of raw materials, and visualize wood combinations with as much aesthetic sizzle as this:

(Oh yeah, I went there! - In case you don't know, it's a Stephen Kinnaird, folks!)

Wow, that is a beauty!

I'm also looking forward to making some with black limba B&S and neck. Maybe trimmed with ziricote... ?

Hey thanks, Dennis!
Probably what really catches your eye is that black strap button.
Todd, I should have said that I also dream about an African Satinwood SJ w/ a Brent Cole Sitka top. (It's coming!)

Do you know how hard my wife would laugh at me if she knew I spent the last 5 minutes of my life reading and oohing and aahing at these responses? To most people, none of what anyone has said would make any sense. But I love it!

I am more of a player than a builder at this point--I have my regular 4 hour slot at a local wine bar and play about 3 or 4 other places each month. Then there are the song circles, bonfires, etc... So my focus is on building guitars that outshine the Martins and Gibsons and Taylors that my friends own. "Cool man! You spent $1500 on that Martin but it's a little bottom heavy isn't it?" or "I think you got a great deal on that Taylor, but it would be nice to get some low end out of 'er"... So far, my dream has been to develop my skills building one style of steel string--the Gibson slope shouldered Jumbo. I have one in quilted Mahogany almost done and a couple more cooking.

And what is with this "I have all of this beautiful wood but can't use it now"?!? Who says? To quote the great Padma (who may or may not have stolen this from someone else), JUST DO IT!!!

I'd like to build an Indian Rosewood/Redwood Jumbo (steel string) with a simple B/W/Abalone/W/B rosette. Here I am working on my 10th, and I have yet to build a guitar with Indian Rosewood or abalone rosette  .

I could sit here for days and come up with ideas that sound like fun, but if I could only do one more guitar in my life, this would be it.

Go for it, Jake.
That combo is sooo satisfying.
We only hope it won't be your last.

Steve,
there are some nice guitars on your site that will provide many ideas for a dream guitar.

I like this one for example...

I lived in Port Orford for some years, so I'd like one of Port Orford cedar and myrtle, another popular wood from that area. Anyone know if that's a good combination?

Hey Peter, many thanks bro.
Hupa, I've used both woods--and was quite pleased with their performance--but not yet together.
I don't see any reason why they wouldn't make a fine instrument, and one all the more meaningful because of your residence in that area. The ultimate souvenir?
